Car Rental Guide

The majority of people are interested in car rentals when they're on vacation. But what many travels may not realize is that car rental in the United States, or North America in general, is different than car rentals in other countries like Europe.

Car rental in the United States is usually very simple to do. The better known, and perhaps safest, car rental agencies can easily be found in a phone book like your local White or Yellow Pages. It's even possible to find car rental agencies on the Internet. If you're looking for a car rental in the United States, all you need to do is take the phone numbers you find in the phone book or online, and call each car rental agency. Ask for the agency's location, car availability and partnerships with any airlines or hotels. Don't forget to ask about any special deals or rates, like group rates.

Most American car rental agencies offer pick-up at no extra cost, even if only a few advertise this feature. If a car rental agency doesn't offer pick-up, then ask if the agency will reimburse the cost of cab fare.

And don't feel like you have to buy extra car insurance from an American car rental agency. Most reps will give you a hard sell on this, but most times it's not necessary. Your car rental will usually be covered under your own car insurance. But if you don't have car insurance under your name, it's a good idea to accept the offer of car rental insurance from the agency.

In the United States, you'll need to be at least 25-years-old to be able to get a car from a car rental agency. Some will give you a car rental if you're younger, but you'll need to pay a much higher cost.

The procedure for car rentals in other countries like Europe is usually a little bit different than in the United States. Naturally, for European car rentals you won't be able to look in your local Yellow Pages phone book. But you should be able to gather all the information you need for arranging a foreign car rental on the Internet.

European or other foreign car rentals are usually much smaller than American car rentals. So cut the amount of baggage you take along. Plus most foreign car rentals are stick-shift. The minimum age for car rentals in European countries is also 25, but this age varies between car rental agencies and countries.

Always be sure to buy extra car insurance on a foreign car rental. Also be aware that foreign car rentals can be very expensive. So can the gas.

Wherever you choose to get a car rental, be sure that the vehicle is in good shape. Before leaving the car rental agency's lot, examine the car for dents, scratches, tears in the upholstery or balding tires. If you find any, immediately report them to the car rental representative. If you don't, you might be responsible for the costs of those repairs.

Car rental is usually an easy and convenient process, regardless of what area you're in. Just be practical, and above all, drive your car rental as safely (or more safely) than you would drive a vehicle you owned.

Shampoo For Thinning Hair - An Evaluation Guide

Before discussing what to look for in a shampoo for thinning hair it is important to set out some facts about hair and hair care to avoid expecting too much from a hair shampoo.

Thinning hair is a problem experienced by millions of men and women, especially as they get older. By the time men reach the age of 50 according to some estimates, around 58% will experience a receding hairline or thinning hair or hair loss on the crown of the head.

About 25% of women experience some thinning of hair by the time they reach 50. Many women start noticing a decrease in hair density between 30 and 40 years of age and the rate of thinning seems to speed up after menopause.

So when a hair shampoo is advertised as a shampoo for thinning hair it is understandable it attracts much interest.

What Is Hair?

Consider this question: What is hair?

Hair is made up of protein and keratin amongst other things. Hair is not living. Although some shampoos and conditioners can add shine and elasticity to hair, the only way to overcome damaged hair is to wait for it to grow out and cut it off.

What Does A Shampoo Do?

So what does a shampoo for thinning hair actually do? That depends.

Some hair shampoos claim to add bounce and volume to your hair. Some of them do this by using an alkaline base to give the impression the hair has body. Beware of these shampoos. For a shampoo to cleanse your hair and scalp without causing damage it needs to be properly balanced. Look for shampoos with a pH factor between 4.5 and 5.5.

In other cases, a shampoo for thinning hair performs a deep cleansing action on the scalp. Ingredients in the shampoo not only get rid of surface dirt, but also neutralize DHT, a main contributor to hair loss and thinning hair.

So if you are looking for a shampoo for thinning hair that is going to promote a clean and healthy scalp and attack DHT examine the product description carefully. (See resource box below for one such shampoo)

Attack From The Inside

But here is another aspect to consider when evaluating a shampoo for hair loss.

There is only so much that can be done from the outside. Yes, a properly formulated shampoo for thinning hair can certainly help but the factors that can have the greatest effect on promoting healthy hair growth come from the inside.

Jonathon E. Phillips, a leading hair loss analyst, believes that treating hair loss involves a whole body approach. In his groundbreaking work "Hair Loss No More" (see resource box below) he maintains that careful attention to diet and nutrition as well as regular exercise will do much more to combat thinning hair than any cosmetic application.

Healthy hair follicles need nutrients supplied by a healthy blood supply that circulates well around the body. A diet that is lacking in key vitamins, minerals, and proteins will have an effect on hair growth.

Likewise a sedentary lifestyle or factors such as smoking can greatly impair the blood circulation with the result the scalp is starved of the ingredients it needs to promote good hair growth.

Mr. Phillips has devised what he calls a revolutionary program combining exercises, diet, and deep breathing to make sure the blood is well oxygenated which can do much to combat thinning hair.

To Summarize

So when it comes to choosing a shampoo for thinning hair be aware that this is only one part of an effective strategy to combat hair loss. Don't expect miracles, even if a manufacturer raises your expectations. A shampoo can only do so much.

Attack the problem from the outside yes but more importantly see what changes you need to make to make sure your body is performing well on the inside.

A healthy body and control over stress can do much to help the problem of thinning hair in addition to using a shampoo!

iPhone Download Services - Are They Legal?

Since Napster revolutionized the file sharing industry in 1999, peer to peer services have been popping up all over. Movie sharing services were soon to follow with services such as Bittorrent as broadband capabilities spread. With the recent introduction of the iPhone, many iPhone peer to peer networks have come about. The question lingering in many consumers minds is... are these iPhone download services legal? In the following paragraphs, we'll discuss what is legal and what isn't, as well as why.

Ok, so getting to the initial point of the article, are these iPhone download services legal? In short, there is a lot of recent precedence that says they're not illegal. So now you're saying, "but I thought file sharing was a huge no-no?" Well that depends on a couple of things, how you use the technology, as well as the topology of the file sharing network. Liabilities fall on different parties in each case. You may have noticed the hype, the buzz, the hoopla, of peer to peer filing sharing has calmed down recently. Why?

Over the past few years, there have been several lawsuits involving file sharing software such as Morpheus, Grokster, Kazaa, the list goes on. Because of this, now there is plenty of legal precedence stating that the software itself is not illegal. How can this be? To answer this question, we have to explore how this software works, and compare it to how peer to peer used to work.

So, what's legal and what isn't? With the case of the aforementioned Napster, their network was set up in a way where a centralized server, or a central point where every search goes, was responsible for all song requests. The server would then send back a list of references where the user could download his or her music. Since the Napster assets were involved in every search, they were actively participating in the file sharing process. This got them in a lot of trouble. This is not how the iPhone download services at set up.

Now you're saying, ok ... so what's the legal way to do it? Here's your answer. A decentralized file sharing network is a peer to peer network not unlike a centralized network, with one KEY difference. As the name suggests, there is no central server, which means, if the software developer turns of his or her computer, the network can continue to run seamlessly, because the software does not rely on the centralized server to operate. The computers in the peer to peer network that have the software running send out the file references. This is way around the above problem. There have been many court cases in recent years citing that this type of file sharing network does nothing illegal.

The iPhone download services in question are all developed using the decentralized peer to peer file sharing topology described above, meaning the software is 100% legal for the company to distribute. There is one more question to answer however. How can YOU safely use the distributed software. Read on to find out.

The way to get in trouble with file sharing is by sharing hundreds or even thousands of different files. The reason behind this is because if you do that, everyone on the entire network has access to your shares, which means a lot of distributed material from your IP address. How do you stay safe with these iPhone download services? Simple. Disable your file sharing, or if your software won't allow it, simply move your downloads to a different folder. This will make sure you are not sharing all of your files with the rest of the peer to peer network and you'll be in the clear.

You'll also want to run a virus check on the files you download. With peer to peer networks, the developers don't have much control over what files are shared on their networks so sometimes an occasional spyware or trojans will be implanted in the media files. Run virus checks before installing your files on your brand new iPhone.

Take the above precautions and you'll have no trouble with iPhone download services and you'll be well on your way to making your iPhone that much better! I hope this answered any questions you may have had. To find out more about these services, check out the link below. Thanks for reading!
