Gymnastics and Eating Disorders

Gymnastics can be a high-stress and high-maintenance sport for even the most emotionally stalwart of children. After all, gymnastics pressures its participants for physical perfection -- for flawlessness of form in gymnastics routines and, sometimes, in appearance. You should always keep an eye on the progress of your child or children. Meeting and opening up lines of communication with their coaches, speaking to their peers and their peers parents will help you keep watch over their physical and emotional states. Creating a network of eyes and ears like that will certainly take a load off of your mind, thats for certain, especially if you find yourself unable to make all of your childs meets or practices.

Emotional and Physical Distress

Emotional distress can most certainly develop as a result of peer judgment or insults and even from off-color comments made by coaches. You need to keep close watch over what happens here, because extreme emotional distress can result in more serious problems in the future, including bulimia and anorexia, two of the most common -- and most dangerous -- eating disorders known today. We will discuss those later, however. Be sure to talk to your child about how he or she is feeling. Talking will usually bring problems out into the open, so that you can work toward correcting them and restoring the confidence that is inherent in your child. Self confidence is one of the many keys to good health and to success in gymnastics.

Physical distress is sometimes more easily spotted than emotional distress. If your child has been injured in an event or during practice, you can usually see the bruises, the scrapes, or the swelling. Sometimes, though, physical distress in a gymnast can be somewhat puzzling. If your gymnast has suddenly taken ill, feels muscle cramps or stiffness, is fatigued all of the time, or complains of general soreness, it may be wise to check up on his or her progress with the coaches. Overexertion can definitely lead to problems--sometimes, it may even be necessary to decrease the amount of strenuous exercise until conditions improve. In the meantime, you should make sure that their nutrition is proper -- that they are eating enough, and, certainly, that they are taking in enough fluids.

Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is a serious eating disorder that stems both from physical and emotional distress, in most case, as a result of judgment passed by peers or coaches or by society itself. In todays world of stick-thin models, where appearance is everything, your gymnast may be pressured to drastically and quickly reduce body size. Typically, the behavior associated with bulimics is binge eating and then purging. In other words, they may take in thousands of calories of fatty food, only to vomit it back up again; all the while, they may also use laxatives. This will eat away at the enamel of the teeth, causing the gums to recede (eventually, all of the teeth may need to be removed), and also cause the salivary glands to swell. The laxatives eventually cause rectal bleeding. A person who has this disorder may retreat to the bathroom for long periods of time or keep large stashes of high-calorie food around the house.

Those afflicted with bulimia nervosa are typically easier to coax out of their routines than those who have anorexia nervosa. They are also more responsive to therapy. It might not even be necessary for hospitalization, save for the severest of cases, which typically include dehydration. Good communication can help prevent all of this from happening.

Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia nervosa is certainly the more severe of the top two eating disorders that afflict young gymnastics athletes today. Anorexia is rather like bulimia in that an anorexic does not allow food to be digested -- but they take it one step further, and avoid food completely. Laxative use may be present, as well, which is exceedingly dangerous. An anorexic will shy away from situations that involve food. Eventually, the malnutrition will get to a point where blood pressure drops, body temperature drops, bone density decreases, hair falls out, and the skin becomes grayish and scaly. Lanugo, a downy body hair, may also develop. Anorexia is fatal in up to ten percent of cases, and if it is not, it may require hospitalization and psychiatric treatment in the end.

This is, of course, why you must maintain communication with your gymnast and his or her coaches. Encourage your child or children. Dont let emotional distress develop into something far more serious. Let them know that they are already incredible for their involvement with gymnastics. They dont need to take mean comments to heart -- and they do need to relax occasionally. Have fun with them! Its best for all involved.

And with that, good luck to you.

Why An Internet Business Is Better Than Real Estate Investing

Want to work from home? There is a lot of ways to make money from a home based business. Two major sources of income are real estate investing and internet business. Both of them have their pros and cons but which is better?

Real estate offers huge payoffs to the creative investor who works hard. But thats just the problem. In order to get paid with real estate you always have to be working. If you stop looking for properties and writing offers the money stops too. There is an exception if you have the luxury of buying large pieces of property and having someone else manage them. But for the rookie investor this isnt an option.

So what are the experts doing? What are Robert Allen, Ron LaGrande, and Carlton Sheets doing with their expert knowledge? Lets discuss what they arent doing. They arent scouring the newspaper looking for public notice foreclosures. They arent knocking doors making offers to desperate sellers. They arent sending form letters to out-of-state property owners. Do you know why they arent doing any of the things they know so much about? Because it requires too much work.

Instead of being knee deep in real estate they are making their money teaching people how to invest for themselves. They arent real estate investors anymore, they are information marketers. These experts moved from real estate investing to information marketing because there is easier money in selling information.

Selling information gives you many advantages over any other business model. The first advantage is that selling information has great margins. This means you for every dollar you spend on expenses you can get 2, 3, or 10 dollars of return. They wrote their material one time and sell it over and over again. It doesnt cost them any thing extra after they get the system up and going.

The easiest, fastest, way to sell information is through the internet. Setting up an internet business requires very little risk and investment. Unlike real estate investing which requires a lot of personal risk. If one real estate deal falls apart you could lose your home or destroy your credit. If your internet business fails nothing major is at risk.

The chance of your internet business failing is a lot lower too. If you do your research and avoid spamming techniques theres little that can destroy your little business. With real estate, on the other hand, there are hundreds of ways for a deal to fall to pieces. Things like shifts in market, unexpected expenses, and people flaking out can all cause your real estate investing to sour.

The real clincher for an internet business being better than real estate investing is this: passive income. Passive income is a powerful force. Your internet business will make you money while you sleep, while youre on vacation, and while youre doing other things. Some real estate investors will probably bring up rental properties. Isnt that passive income? My wifes parents have a lot of rental properties and they are always chasing down payments, fixing things, or paying the bills. Its really not as passive as it first appears.

So, lets leave real estate investing to people that dont know better and do what real estate gurus are doing instead; selling information online.

Top 5 Attractions in Delhi

Located on the sprawling banks of the river Yamuna, Delhi, the capital of India, represents an intriguing blend of a myriad of ancient and the modern civilizations, reflected not only in its diverse cultural heritage and historical monuments but also in the present social structure and lifestyles. The city chronicles the history of the various civilizations and dynasties that flourished here for over 3000 years. Their legacy survives in the many ancient monuments left behind by their rulers, each a chronicle of the glory of its times and a reflection of the prevailing cultures. The remains of seven distinctive capital cities can be seen here.

Here is a pick of the top five tourist attractions in Delhi:

Qutub Minar

A mammoth minaret (238 feet tall) built from the remains of 27 Hindu and Jain temples during the years 11931369, commemorating the victory of Qutab-ud-din over the city's last Hindu kingdom, Qutub Minar is one of Delhis oldest monuments. Decorated with calligraphy representing verses from the Koran, it tapers from a 50-feet diameter at the base to just 8 feet at the top. The first three floors are built with red sandstone, and the upper two with white marble.

In the same complex stands a mysterious Iron Pillar, bearing fourth-century Sanskrit inscriptions from the period of King Chandragupta II, that has intrigued scientists to no end because it has withstood centuries of climatic upheavals and remained rust-free till today. A popular legend says that if you can encircle it with your arms while standing with your back touching it, any wish will be fulfilled.

Red Fort

Popularly known as Lal Quila and built by Shah Jahan during the years16181647, Red Fort, with its massive sandstone walls and exquisite architecture, is the ultimate reminder of the sheer wealth, splendor and power of the Mughal Empire. There are many must-see places within the fort, resplendent with intricate decoration, with separate rooms and balconies for the womenfolk, swimming pools, and natural air conditioning. It also houses an Archaeological Museum.

Jantar Mantar

Built in 1724 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, this esoteric, awe-inspiring salmon-colored stone-and-brick structure is an observatory used by the king for measuring time and calculating the positions of the stars and planets, and for prediction of eclipses. It houses multiple buildings with unique architectural combinations of geometrical forms, each meant for a specialized purpose of astronomical measurement.

Purana Qila (Old Fort)

Believed to have been built on the ruins of the ancient original city of Delhi (Indraprastha, founded in 3rd or 4th century B.C.), by the Afghan ruler Sher Shah during the years 15381545, the Old Fort with its massive walls and three imposing gateways gives a fair idea of its lost grandeur. It houses a small octagonal red sandstone tower, used by King Humayun as a library, the Qila-i-Kuhran Mosque, and a small archaeological museum.

India Gate

Built in sandstone, India Gate is a war memorial to commemorate the sacrifice of Indian soldiers during World War I. The sheer grandeur of the architecture of the neighboring Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhawan must not be missed, either.
